Support for an emerging public and social sector

Public and social sector organisations are changing to take advantage of new technologies and approaches, as well as in response to emerging challenges and opportunities. EMERGING FIELD supports organisations to navigate these changes by providing consultancy support in strategy development, facilitation, user research, and service design.

EMERGING FIELD was founded by Ed Parkes in 2019.

Work

Ed worked with the Local Government Association, the representative organisation for English local government, to update their data maturity model for Local Government.

Ed worked for the Open Data Institute (ODI) on a Patrick J McGovern Foundation-funded project to define the concept of "responsible data stewardship".

We worked with Camden Council and Central Bedfordshire Council on two projects funded by the Local Digital Collaboration Unit.

We worked for the Open Data Institute (ODI) in late 2020 to help them think about what products and services they might be able to provide to support the growing ecosystem of data institutions.

Clear Your Tracks is an engaging illustration-driven prototype built for non-technical people that quickly sets out how your mobile phone can reveal your location and what actions you can take to reduce data collection.

In March 2020, EMERGING FIELD facilitated a 5-day design sprint for the London Office for Technology and Innovation, to develop approaches to help London Boroughs to collaborate to implement Internet of Things technologies in public services.
